A view of the Rainbow Bridge with an ice bridge below it. The Rainbow Bridge was built in 1941 to replace the Upper Steel Arch or Honeymoon Bridge which was destroyed by ice in 1938. An ice bridge foarms in the gorge each winter and can be as thick as 30 feet. The arch span of the Rainbow Bridge is 950 feet with the total length of the bridge being 1,450 feet. The roadway of the bridge is 205 feet above the river.
