The entrance rapids of the Whirlpool

Photo © by Scott A. Ensminger

The entrance rapids to the Whirlpool. At this point the Niagara River enters the Whirlpool and circles to the left. The river must then dive under the incoming water and exits to the right of this photo. Before the powerplants started the large scale divertion of water over Niagara Falls, the ledges of light gray Whirlpool Sandstone were under water. Can you spot the Niagara Spanish Aero Car in this photo?
